A grown up, magical tea party (even the adults will enjoy!)

I absolutely love the fact that tea parties are a legitimate way of celebrating a special event now! Although, they do tend to be associated with little girls' birthdays more than anything else. However, I don't see any reason that you can't make a tea party a little more grown up and something that the adults will enjoy as well. Keep reading to find out how.

The first thing to consider when hosting a grown-up tea party us the setting and the theme. In particular, I think tea parties held outside have that extra magical quality, especially if you plan them for dusk or the nighttime and decorate the surrounding areas with tea lights and fairy light in the trees.

However, if you do have to hold you shindig indoors don't worry too much because there is much you can do to provide that magical ambiance. In particular, pay attention, the crockery and cutlery you are using. Anything vintage and floral can work well but don't get too concerned about having everything matchy-matchy. In fact, the eclectic look that comes from combining different pieces from charity shops and flea markets like I do here, adds to the romantic edge.

Also, it is vital not to forget the table clothes, and other soft furnishings. Again, collecting smaller clothes from charity shops, especially those with embroidery or lacework can work very well. Although, if you are struggling to source enough of these for the size of your gathering, some patchwork crochet blanket strewn on the ground can work well too. In fact, to make it a little different and as grown up as possible, why not set a low table and sit on scatter cushions that are thrown around for a bohemian and relaxed feel?

What is a tea party without drinks? Of course, for a grown-up shindig, you will want something a little stronger than just tea. Firstly, it's a good idea to get in some strong coffee for your guests and don't be afraid to make a decent amount of it too. In fact, if you go for something like the subscription coffee from Two Chimps that is on offer, you can be sure to have enough no matter how popular this drink is at your party.

Then there are the tea and coffee themed cocktails that you will want to offer. I think these are just adorable if served out of teapots, and into either bone china cups, aperitif glasses, or even Turkish tea glasses that are edged with gold.

Lastly, of all, you will, of course, want to supply some grown-up finger food to enjoy doing you tea party. What this means is that the Kipling's Fondant Fancies are out and should be replaced with fair such as deviled eggs, cheese plates, croque-monsieur, and delicious bitesize French macarons for afters.

You can even have a go at making your own grown-up whiskey glazed scones as well by following the recipe here. A dish that is guaranteed to make your tea party most enjoyable for all the grownups attending.
